History and Philosophy: Make Me Up was started in September 2006, with the idea that, given a choice, women would prefer to buy quality makeup and beauty items all in an intimate, boutique setting. We are locally owned and operated, located in the heart of the New Orleans Historic Magazine Street Shopping District. We offer a wide variety of name brand makeup and skin care lines as well as various beauty-related accessories. One of our goals is to maintain clientele through consistency and superior service.
Principles: We believe in professionalism. All of our makeup artists have been trained professionally, by other professional and industry-renowned makeup artists and beauty schools, in the art of makeup application. All of our makeup artists are also licensed estheticians, who have been taught the biology and chemistry behind skin care.
Product Research: We believe in offering something special and unique to our customers and clients. The makeup lines that we choose to sell are mostly boutique lines, developed by well-known makeup artists from around the world. These lines will not be found in drugstores, most department stores, or even popular chain makeup stores. We do extensive research to find lines that offer unique and beneficial products at a price comparable to department store brands. We limit our shop to selling makeup, skin and hair care products and other related items, only. Our services are limited to makeup applications, facials and waxings for one reason - this is what we do best !
Special Features: We believe in offering our clientele comfort and privacy. Our boutique includes a makeup application studio where clients can have makeovers and lessons in a private and relaxed environment. We are also equipped to provide makeup applications on location.
Philanthropy: We believe in giving back to our community. In March 2007, we participated in the DivaBetics Event, sponsored by the PowderGroup of New York. This event, held at the Audubon Tea Room, was to help women with diabetes feel better by helping them to look their best. We provided free mini-makeovers for hundreds of women. In April 2007, we participated in the Cystic Fibrosis Fashion Show and Auction, held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, where we provided makeup applications for the local celebrity models. Each fall, we participate in the New Orleans Junior League Holiday Shopping Event, which benefits several Jr. League projects locally. In October, 2008, we again contributed to the Divabetics Event sponsored by the PowderGroup by providing gift bags of makeup. In June, 2009, we again participated in the annual Divabetics Event, providing free mini-makeovers as well as free gifts for attendees. In 2010 we participated in a food drive for Hands On New Orleans, benefitting the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans. In February, 2010, we made a substantial contribution of Emmett Cooper hair care products to the country of Haiti, following their devastating earthquake.
Continuing Education: We believe that the art of makeup is one that is both classic as well as evolving. Through continuing education, our makeup artists stay abreast of the latest trends in makeup, so that we may offer our clients whatever look they may wish. In May 2007, we attended the Makeup Show in New York, to learn airbrush makeup application as well as extreme special effects makeup application, including bruises and wounds used in horror films and for Halloween. In November, 2007, we attended a seminar by Billy B, concentrating on the smokey eye look as well as Bridal makeup. In September, 2008, we attended a seminar on airbrush technique by Kett Cosmetics. In January, 2009, we attended a seminar by Glominerals on basic beauty makeup application.
Growth: We believe in the continued growth of our business in order to better serve our clientele. In June 2007, we introduced airbrush makeup applications for brides and other special events, for a flawless look. In September, 2008, we opened our facial and waxing room. We now offer waxings with Lycon Wax from Australia and facials featuring Cellex-C skin care and GloSpa and GloTheraputics products. In November, 2009, Albert Brown Salon moved next door to Make Me Up !!, at 3424 Magazine Street, so that together we can offer a full range of services to our clients, including makeup sales and applications, facials, waxings, all hair services, manicures, and pedicures.
Associations: We believe that associating with other local businesses will serve to strengthen our city and renew our economy. We belong to the Magazine Street Merchants' Association, and the Wedding Professionals Guild. We are also associated with ProductionHUB.com.
